[Class 44.] The crush-bar 14 of an emergency-exit fastening is pivoted at one end about a vertical axis, and it operates the bolt mechanism through the agency of a bell crank lever, which has an angular and sliding movement in a plane extending longitudinally through the crush-bar. The bolts 1, 2 are operated by rotation of the disc 4 which has a radial slot 12. The bell-crank lever 7 is pivoted to lugs 9 on the casing 3 and the arm 10 of the lever rests in the slot 12. The other arm 13 carries rollers 20 at its outer end and these run inside the crush-bar behind the sides 19 of a T-shaped slot 18. When the bolts are in the operative position the parts are in the positions shown in Fig. 5, but when the end of the bar 14 is pressed forward as shown in Fig. 3, the arm 10 of the lever rotates the disc 4 to withdraw the bolts. In the unlocked position the arm 13 rests in the crush-bar and the lugs 9 enter the wide part of the T-shaped slot 18. An extension of the arm 13 has a hook 23 which engages a pivoted catch 24 to hold the parts in the unlocked position. A handle 29 is provided to effect release of the catch, or the screw 30 can be turned to keep the catch out of action. The apparatus may be applied to horizontal latches instead of vertical bolts, and the arm 13 may have a bifurcated end carrying a roller working on a strip of the crush-bar. In another form the arm of the bell crank lever is slotted and slides over a pin fixed in the crush-bar.
