404,754. Cutting- mechanism for tufted pile-fabric looms. PERRY, E. J., 68, Heath Mill Lane, Birmingham. Aug. 20, 1932, No. 23367. [Class 142 (ii).] A tuft-cutter for Axminster carpet and like looms comprises a blade device operable between a facially-opposed pair of tuft-holding combs in such a manner as to be enentirely enclosed within the combs at all stages of the cutting operation, the blade device and the pair of combs being relatively slidable for the cutting operation. As shown, the blade device consists of a plurality of razor-blades secured by screws and small clamping-plates k to a bar g which slides between combs a, b, rigidly fastened together by screws d. One elongated clamping-plate may replace the plurality of smaller plates. The cutting motion is in a combined longitudinal and oblique direction, a cam slot m in the bar engaging a fixed pin l. The pin-andslot device may be replaced by links. The blade device may remain stationary, the combs being reciprocated.
