June 4, 1932, No. 15754. Convention date, March 31, [Class 40 (v).] The detector of a wireless receiver is so arranged that the grid circuit rectification is substantially smaller in value than the anode rectification as the input signal is increased to a considerable magnitude so that the ratio of input high-frequency voltage to output audiofrequency voltage varies at a uniform rate. The object of the invention is to obtain adequate voltages for automatic gain control without producing distoration due to overloading. The detector is preferably of the " variable-mu " type and may comprise a commercial tetrode with the anode and screen-grid connected. The Figure shows a superheterodyne receiver with the control voltage derived from the second detector 18 and applied to the high frequency amplifier 10 and the intermediate frequency amplifier 16.
