Abstract

Textile threads, including artificial silk threads, are dressed with a solution comprising a salt of a sulphonaphthenic acid, with or without an adhesive substance. Salts of sulphonaphthenic acids with alkali metals, ammonia or amines, including substituted amines such as ethanolamines and aminobenzoates, may be used. The adhesive substance may be spermaceti, paraffin wax, Japan wax, dextrin, algin, or a gum. According to the examples, solutions are used comprising (1) water, ammonium sulphonaphthenate, and spermaceti; (2) benzine, sodium sulphonaphthenate, and Japan wax; the solutions may also contain a fugitive colouring material.ALSO:A size for textile threads comprises a solution of a salt of a sulphonaphthenic acid, with or without an adhesive substance. Salts of sulphonaphthenic acids with alkali metals, ammonia or amines, including substituted amines such as ethanolamines and aminobenzoates, may be used. The adhesive substance may be spermaceti, paraffin wax, Japan wax, dextrin, algin, or a gum. According to the examples, solutions are used comprising (1) water, ammonium sulphonaphthenate, and spermaceti; (2) benzine, sodium sulphonaphthenate, and Japan wax; the solutions may also contain a fugitive colouring material.
