Abstract

Preparations suitable for use in planographic printing of natural or regenerated cellulose fabrics, being hard at room temperature, thermoplastic with a long softening range, and substantially free from hygroscopic alcohols are obtained by incorporating a direct dyestuff and urea with a carbohydrate gum. Specified gums are various dextrins, especially highly dextrinised products such as yellow corn dextrin. The preparations may also contain a soap, a wax, trisodium phosphate, bentonite or a wetting agent such as an ester of sulphosuccinic acid. In examples: (1) yellow dextrin is pasted with a mixture of Cal somine fast scarlet 4BSY, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, urea and water and to the heated mixture is added an aqueous paste, containing olive oil soap, glyceryl monostearate, trisodium phosphate and the sodium salt of the isobutyl ester of sulphosuccinic acid, the whole being then dried in vacuo until of a consistency suitable for planographic printing on pigmented rayon or cotton; (2) the product of (1) is mixed with a bentonite gel containing sodium carbonate and the mixture is dried until of a consistency suitable for planographic printing; (3) the dyestuff in (1) is replaced by Direct sky blue F.F.
