Abstract

402,437. Spray-producers. ADAMS, A. J., Abbotsbury, Westbury Leigh, Westbury, Wiltshire. April 27, 1932, No. 12115. [Class 69 (iii).] Liquids are atomized by causing a sprayproducer to eject through its nozzle centrally or substantially centrally with regard to the nozzle a jet of atomizing fluid to strike a cross current of a mixture of atomizing fluid and of liquid to be atomized so that the resultant flow of combined fluids travels in the desired direction over a knife edge, the mixture passing over a bulbous surface for even distribution in the passage to the jet. As shown, in a bore of the barrel 1 is a plug 2. The air inlet pipe 5 is threaded into the barrel 1 at 4. Tube 16 connected to a hose leading to a source of liquid is connected on to the end of the barrel 1. The plug 2 carries a pin 22 engaging a longitudinal groove 24 in the barrel 1. The plug 2 has a cylindrical part 25 fitting closely within the barrel, and is diminished in diameter at 26 to form an annular space 27. The portion 28 of the plug 2 is formed as a triangular prism with flat faces and rounded apexes, leaving air passages 31. A cap 32 fits over the end of plug 2. The bore 33 in plug 2 ends short of the end of plug 2 and communicates with a pair of passages 34 leading to the annular mixing space 35. A pair of spaced grooves 36 extend from a point beyond cap 32 to the end of the plug body. The head of cap 32 is bulbous and carries an annular knife edge 40. A central air emission opening 41 in the head is axially aligned with a constricted emission opening 42 in the cap 43 surrounding cap 32. A resilient seating 46 is provided for the cap 43. On barrel 1 is threaded a cap 50 movable to adjustt sleeve 43.
