Abstract
401,581. Pistons. DIETRICH, F. R., 42, Langwiederstrasse, Pasing, near Munich, Germany. April 8, 1933, Nos. 10600 and 10601. Convention dates, April 8, 1932 and June 29, 1932. [Class 122 (i).] In a piston comprising a head 1 of light metal and a skirt 2 of hard metal radially yieldable limbs 4 on one part are connected by casting to the other and are so disposed as to resist relative tilting of the parts due to the thrust of the connecting rod. Two limbs 4, Fig. 3, or two yokes 5, Fig. 6, having their upper ends embedded in the head may be employed. The portions 5<1> of the yokes may be enlarged to encircle the gudgeon pin and form part of the bearing therefor. In a modification one or two chordal struts 8 Fig. 11, formed on the skirt may be embedded in each boss 3 formed on the head and may form part of the bearing for the gudgeon pin. In a further form, Fig. 13, the limbs 9 are cast integrally with the head and encircle the bosses 3<1> formed on the skirt. The flexibility of the limbs permits elative expansion of the parts without causing undue stress.
