Abstract

400,504. Rotary engines. NYBORG, T. G. and HIGGINS, M. F., Meco Works, Worcester. March 21, 1933, No. 8554. [Class 110 (ii).] The meshing rotors 4, 5 are driven by compressed air, entering through a port 1, which expands between the rotor teeth and tends to deposit ice 16. The fluid is exhausted through ports 6, 7 and through additional ports 14. Between these ports the casing 13 is shaped as a volute so that particles of ice or other foreign matter, scraped from the casing walls, are flung outwards centrifugally and ejected through the ports 14. The upper part of the casing is formed as a cowl 12, and contains a lubricating chamber 15 which feeds oil into the working chambers. While running light, air at atmospheric temperature is drawn in through the ports 6, 7, and tends to melt the ice formed on the teeth of the rotors.
