Abstract

399,936. Stereotype matrices. LONG, S. W. H., 18, Southend Road, Beckenham, Kent, GRAHAM, M., 75, Victoria Street, LONDON EXPRESS NEWSPAPER, Ltd., Fleet Street, and DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., 32, Osnaburgh Street, all in London. June 14, 1932, No. 16774. [Class 100 (ii).] In order to prevent deformation of the flexible flongs during casting of printing- surfaces, they are provided with a heat-resisting flexible backing composed of a vulcanizable material. The backing is mainly composed of rubber, guttapercha, balata, or the like, and can be applied either in the form of a plasticized sheet or an artificial or natural aqueous dispersion. In the former case, a thin unvulcanized sheet of rubber is placed on the back of the flong and the two are embossed together, vulcanization being ejected either simultaneously or subsequently. The aqueous dispersions may be applied by pouring, spreading, painting, or spraying, and may comprise dispersions of coagulated rubber, vulcanized rubber, synthetic rubber, waste, or reclaim to which known compounding-ingredients or concentrates obtained according to Specifications 290,313 or 291,635, may be added. In an example, a composition containing rubber, sulphur, zinc oxide, zinc diethyl-dithiocarbamate, barytes, and limestone dust is employed. The backing is dried by heating under normal or reduced pressure.
