[Class 100 (ii).] A method of producing caoutchouc formes for relief and intaglio printing consists in supplying the matrices or original formes with natural or synthetic, thinly or thickly liquid, or paste-like caoutchouc milk. The caoutchouc milk may be mixed with fillers &c., such as chalk, zinc oxide, heavy spar, cement, zinc or other metal dust, cork powder, and sulphur, and it may be hardened by vulcanizing at normal temperature or in an oven at 115‹ C. The milk before being applied may be vulcanized, concentrated, or mixed with suitable substances to render it micro-porous. The matrix or original forme is preferably coated with a thin layer of caoutchouc-repellent substance, such as gelatine or chalk. The formes may be prepared by using the milk in place of metal in the usual stereotype-casting devices, type-casting machines, &c. The caoutchouc forme may be flat or curved and secured to a cylinder, being preferably attached to a support or reinforcement of sheet zinc or the like. Soft boards, lead plates, celluloid plates, &c. may be used for the matrices.
