Abstract

247,841. Jaek, C. Aug. 8, 1925. Printing-surfaces.-A printing roller or block is produced by providing a support such as a roughened aluminium cylinder 1 or an aluminium plate with a layer or layers 2 of soft material such as soft rubber, then applying a thick layer of hard rubber, securing the latter by vulcanization, and engraving the same by a sand-blast, preferably after turning, planing, or grinding the surface and applying paper stencils. The roller or block may be employed for a new design after turning or grinding away the surface. The sandblast may be allowed to act until the layer 2 is exposed when additional printing members 4, such as brass lines or cast patterns, may be inserted in the manner employed in pattern cutting. The soft layer 2 may consist of 10 per cent rubber, 10 per cent sulphur, 5 per cent factis, 5 per cent linseed oil, and a looze filler such as sawdust, ground paper, or cork, and the hard layer 3 may contain fillers such as chalk or zinc white.
