Abstract

399,679. Charge-mixing devices. HAPKINS, D. N., 109, South Carondelet Street, Los Angeles, U.S.A. Dec. 16, 1932, No. 35759. [Class 7 (ii).] A fuel air-mixing device for insertion between the carburetter and the inlet manifold of an internal combustion engine comprises a mixing chamber having a portion A of its length in the form of a truncated cone with an axial unobstructed inlet D<1> in the reduced portion thereof and another portion, in continuation of and coaxial with the first portion, the second portion being reduced in the opposite direction with a coaxial egress D<2> at its reduced end. As shown, the second portion is of hemispherical shape and the two portions merge tangentially into each other, but the second portion may be a truncated cone oppositely disposed to the first portion. The interior surface may be roughened as at 16 or be provided with either annular projections forming troughs or a helical rib.
