Abstract

Lubricating-oils of high-viscosity index are obtained by treating the crude material with liquid sulphur dioxide at a temperature above 25 DEG C. For example, a Jaolo residual oil is treated at 35 DEG C. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 any temperature substantially higher than 0 DEG C. may be used. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
