Abstract

The ageing of natural or artificial rubber is improved by the addition thereto, before or after vulcanization, of the products obtained by the action of sulphur mono- or di-chlorides on aromatic hydroxy compounds or their derivatives. Suitable compounds specified are p-dihydroxydiphenyl-sulphide, dihydroxy di-b -naphthylsulphide, dihydroxyditolyl sulphide, and the reaction products of both mono- and di-chlorides on a -naphthol, p-hydroxydiphenyl, and crude xylenol.
