Abstract
Substances useful for soaking hides are obtained by treating amines containing hydroxyl substituted alkyl groups having not more than 8 carbon atoms with sulphur dioxide or salts of sulphurous acid. Suitable amines are those specified in the parent Specification, e.g. monoethanolamine, triethanolamine, methylbutanolamine, cyclohexylethanolamine, diethylbutanolamine, hydroxyethylmethylaniline.
