Abstract

397,517. Electric-arc lamps. ARMSTRONG, J. O., 15, Baronsmere Road, East Finchley, London. Feb. 25, 1932, No. 5613. [Class 39 (i).] A magnetic arc control comprising an apertured plate surrounding the positive carbon as described in Specification 381,952 comprises in addition an electromagnet arranged vertically on each side of the apertured plate, the flux between the poles of the magnets being in substantially the same direction as that in the plate. The Figure shows a plate e arranged about the positive electrode a and with a narrow air gap k as described in Specification 381,952. The electromagnets o are adjustably mounted in brackets q. Their upper ends t curve inwards and their lower ends u are bent at right-angles. An example of suitable dimensions and current strength is described.
