Abstract

396,113. Lighting systems; reflectors. HOLMES, A. H., Brick House Farm, Pitsea, Essex, and MEDWAY, E. M., 7, Montague Avenue, Brockley, London. Sept. 14, 1932, No. 447. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv).] A lamp, adapted to give a wide spread of light in one plane with considerably less spread in planes at right-angles thereto, comprises a reflector 12 of relatively flat form, each half of which is in the form of a short trough-shaped reflector the shorter side of which extends to the adjacent end of the light-emitting aperture and the longer side of which is directed towards the other end of the light-emitting aperture. Side reflectors 14 are provided. The main reflector carries two brackets 7, 8 each provided with three lamp-bulb sockets, one or two bulbs being mounted in each set of sockets. The lamp may be used for street lighting, illumination of buildings, as an overhead lamp, as a vehicle headlamp, and for other purposes. For lighting the surface of a roadway, the lamp is placed in the kerb or on a stand above the kerb, pairs of lamps being arranged on opposite sides of the road.
