Abstract

394,869. Lubricators. WINTER, G., 6, Schwaighofstrasse, Freiburg, Breisgau, Germany, and KALTENBACHER, A., 25 Gotthardstrasse, Zug, Switzerland. Nov. 7, 1932, No. 31428. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1931. [Class 12 (iii).] An arrangement for supplying lubricant or grease under pressure comprises a lubricant container 1, a receptacle 7 for a hydraulic medium, a hydraulic pressure cylinder 13 with a piston arrangement 34, 35 connected to the displaceable base 10 of the container 1, a pump cylinder 17 communicating with the container 1 and with a lubricant pipe-line, a second pump cylinder 16 communicating with the receptacle 7 and the cylinder 13, and pistons 19, 18 for these pump cylinders, which are actuated by a common operating lever 20. The two pistons 18, 19 are urged upwardly by springs 22 and are depressed simultaneously by the hand-lever or pedal 20 by means of a toothed segment 21 engaging rack bars on the pistons. The hydraulic medium is drawn into the cylinder 16 through a passage 28 having a non-return valve 29, and delivered to the cylinder 13 through a passage 30 also having a non-return valve 31. The piston arrangement in the cylinder 13 is of a telescopic form and comprises a hollow cylinder 12 to which the base 10 is secured by a nut 11, this cylinder 12 having a closed piston 35 sliding in an outer cylinder 15. The cylinder 15 has an apertured piston 34 so that the hydraulic medium first passes through this piston to raise cylinder 12, and thereafter raises both cylinders 12, 15. The combined length of the cylinders 12, 15 and the securing cap 14 is such that the base 10 can be raised to the top of a tube 23. Lubricant displaced by the base 10 enters the tube 23 whence it is drawn by the piston 19 through a conduit 24 past a ball valve 25 and then delivered through a passage 26 to a supply conduit. A check valve 27 is provided in the passage 26. In an alternative mode of operation, lubricant is supplied directly to a conduit attached in the aperture 4, the supply to the pump cylinder 17 through the tube 23 being cut off by depressing a valve 5. Conduits connecting the receptacle 7 with the space below the pistons 34, 35 are provided respectively with an adjustable spring- loaded relief valve and a ball valve which is urged to its seating by the action of an eccentric on a shaft 40 against a spring-loaded tappet 39. Apertures 13a in the upper end of the cylinder 13 connect the space between the cylinders 13, 15 with the receptacle 7. The base 10 which is of leather is held between pressure discs 8, 9.
