Abstract

Films for uniting wood and other materials are made from aqueous solutions containing albuminous substances such as glue, blood, casein, and isinglass, formaldehyde or compounds yielding formaldehyde, additional tanning substances such as tannin, chrome alum and sodium bichromate and softening agents such as glycol and glycerine to which ammonia or organic solvents such as acetone, methyl alcohol and lower fatty acid esters, for example methyl and ethyl acetate may be added.ALSO:Wood and other materials are united by dry films made from aqueous solutions containing albuminous substances such as glue, blood, casein, and isinglass, formaldehyde or compounds yielding formaldehyde, additional tanning substances such as tannin, chrome alum, and sodium bichromate and softening-agents such as glycol and glycerine, to which ammonia or organic solvents such as acetone, methyl alcohol and lower fatty acid esters for example methyl and ethyl acetate may be added. Alternatively, a paper sheet coated on both sides with the solution by means of rolls and dried may be used. Adhesion is effected by pressure at a temperature of about 70 DEG C.
