Abstract

296,026. Soc. d'Etude des Verres et Glaces de S¹retÚ, (Assignees of Duclaux, J.). Aug. 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Compound transparent sheets. - Two glass sheets are united to celluloid or like sheets to form compound transparencies by coating one face of each glass sheet with an adhesive preparation consisting of gelatine to which has been added a non-volatile substance without action on the gelatine but adapted to soften or dissolve the core, and uniting to the core during or after immersion in an alcohol bath. For a core of cellulose acetate, phenol or glycol diacetate are used and for celluloid, chloral, lactic acid or its esters, esters of glycol ethylene, and glycerine or urea or its substitution derivatives are added to the gelatine. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), the glass sheets are described as being coated with gelatine which is dried by immersion in alcohol or a dehydrating agent, and the gelatine-coated glass is dipped in a bath containing a mixture of acetone and a water-soluble nitrocellulose solution, and the celluloid &c. core is described as being sprayed with gelatine solution to which is added a common solvent of gelatine and celluloid such as an acetate or an emulsifying agent such as sulphoricinate, soap, or any wetting agent such as nekal. The glass and celluloid are united by pressure in this modified process after dipping the glass in alcohol. The gelatine solution may be applied as a discontinuous layer with or without stencils, bv spraying. Other substances such as gelose and cellulose acetate and their solvents may replace the gelatine and celluloid &c. Acetone, oils pure or mixed with toluene, benzene, or their homologues, may be used as solvents for nitrocellulose. The uniting of the sheets may be effected in a continuous manner by rollers which may be heated or rubber covered. A press may be used in addition to the rolling. The glass may be protected by rubber sheets when rolling with bare cylinders. This subject-matter does not appear in, the Specification as accepted.
