Abstract
394,152. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, 13D, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Aug. 4, 1932, No. 21904. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1931. [Class 39 (i).] In a method of heating bodies locally, for example in sealing-off the exhaust, tubes of discharge tubes, the hot gases produced by heating-devices such as pointed flames are sucked away from those points which should not be heated. Fig. 1 shows a bulb 1 with an exhaust tube 2 that is being sealed off within the re-entrant portion 8 by finely pointed flames from two burners 7, the hot gases of combustion and the surrounding hot air being withdrawn through pipes 11, Fig. 2, connected to an exhausting-device. The pipes 11 are in the form of a two-pronged fork extending within the re-entrant part of the bulb and preferably mounted on a member 12 carried by a vertically reciprocating rod 13. The mounting of the filament-supporting wires in the head 14 at the top of the stem 6 may be facilitated by softening the head by a flame directed tangentially thereon while the hot gases are withdrawn through a vertical tube held above the point to which heat is applied.
