[Class 74 (ii).] A knitted fabric has a foundation of body yarns 10 and warp pattern yarns 11 .. 14 incorporated in one or more of the wales in such manner that in each wale containing a patterning yarn there are two such yarns, of which only one at a time is knitted and where that one is knitted the other is retained in or is carried along the same wale without showing as part of the pattern. Warp-yarn feeders 40 comprising a flat body and spaced projections 50, 51 having yarn-guiding eyes are provided, the projections 50, 51 being angularly offset relatively to the body portion to guide the feeder in its wrapping movement about the needle. Needle-selecting pattern mechanism preferably as described in Specification 267,876, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], is provided for moving needles to two heights, x-x, y-y, for cooperation with the yarn feeder. Yarn feeder deflecting cams are provided for moving the feeders 40 so that either the projection 50 only is moved to the outside of the needles, or both projections 50, 51 are so moved ; undeflected feeders remain entirely within the needle circle or line. Needles 31 raised to height x-x have yarn 49 from the projection 51 only wrapped about them, since the offset projection 50 does not engage the needle and is therefore not deflected by it to wrap its yarn 48. With the needle at height y-y, the projection 51 does not pass outside the needle, so that the needle receives yarn only from the projection 50.
