Abstract

347,307. Knitting. WILDT, 'E., HOLMES, H. H., and WILDT & CO., Ltd., Adelaide Works, Leicester. Jan. 30, 1930, No. 3263. [Class 74 (ii).] A knitted fabric is reinforced by wale yarns, each of which is wrapped round the associated needle two or more times before the needle is actuated by the stitch cam. The wale yarns 10 may be knitted with the ground yarn to form loops, or may be interlocked with the loops of the ground fabric 11, as shown in Fig. 2, and in the manner described in Specification 313,657, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.]. Alternatively, one of the loops of the wale yarn is formed into a knitted loop with the ground yarn, and the other or others is interlocked at the back of the fabric. The wale yarns 10 are wrapped about the needles by guides 50, 51 actuated by out-throw cams 37, 38, return cams 159, 60 and cams 58, 59 which move the guides in the direction of movement on the needle carrier relatively to the needle cams. Thread guides 50, each having a slot 57 corresponding to one of the out-throw cams, are provided where it is not desired to wrap the wale yarn twice about a needle. When fabrics of the type shown in Fig. 2 are required, needles b having an additional butt 71 are provided ; a cam 69 is also provided so that the needles are raised, before entering the knitting-cam system 63, 64, 65 and before they take the ground yarn, to clear the wale yarns below the latches. To obtain fabric wherein one wale yarn, loop is knitted with the ground yarn and another is interlocked at the back of the fabric, the cam 69 is withdrawn, and cams 67, 68 are brought into operation; the needles 71 receive the first loop of wale yarn and are raised by the cam 68 to clear that loop, and thereafter are lowered to receive the second loop, which is knitted with the ground yarn. Specifications 327,958, 327,987, 327,988 and 328,026, [all in Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], also are referred to.
