Abstract

391,286. Steam turbines &c. STUBBS, A., 390, Wilbraham Road, Chorlton-cum- Hardy. Feb. 23, 1932, No. 5437. [Class 110 (iii).] In a steam plant .in which the steam is reheated between stages of use, such as a plant compris ing high and low pressure turbines 12 17, the reheating is effected in two stages in flue-gas superheaters 13, 16 between which is arranged a steam cooler 15. The .amount of interstage superheat is controlled by varying the effect of the cooler. Steam from the drum 5 of the boiler 1 is passed through two superheaters 6, 7 and an interposed cooler 8 to the high pressure turbine 12, the cooler enabling the primary superheat to be controlled. The coolers 8, 15 consist of evaporators, and they may be regulated manually or automatically by altering the height of feed-water in them or by altering the rate of feed. The steam generated in the evaporators may be passed to the steam drum 5 through a throttle valve by which the water levels can be controlled, or the water spaces of the evaporators may be connected to the water space of the drum, the connection being controlled by a valve. A controlled byepass may be arranged across the steam tubes in the evaporator' 15. The steam generated in one or more of the evaporators may be introduced into the main steam - system, for example, at the exhaust point of the high pressure stage. In the first reheating element the direction of flow of steam is preferably counter-current to that of the flue gases.
