[Class 40 (v).] In a radio-frequency amplifier in which volume control is effected by varying the coupling between the output of valve P and the tuned input circuit L, S of valve Q, variations in the tuning of circuit L, S due to alterations of coupling are compensated for by a circuit R simulating the output circuit of valve P, and variations in the inductance m due to alterations in the tuning of the circuit L, S are compensated for by mechanically linking the tuning condenser S to the volume control. The coils m, L, n are arranged in staggered relation, the volume control moving the coil L in a direction at right-angles to the flux therethrough, while the tuning control moves the coil L in the direction of the flux.
