Abstract

390,253. Hose reels. BOWEN, T. O., Hafodwen, Little Aston Road, Aldridge, near Walsall. Dec. 1, 1931, No. 33246. [Class 99 (ii).] In a swivelling fluid-conducting joint between a sleeve or housing on a water feed pipe and a pipe &c. on a hose reel carrier frame, a ring or flange on the latter pipe coacts with a seat in the sleeve to support the reel frame and form a water seal, a packing gland adjustable in the sleeve without affecting the pressure between the ring and the seat being also provided. A hub 2, on which the hose drum 4 is secured, rotates about a fixed spindle 1 threaded at one end into an elbow piece 7 on the end of one arm 6 of a pair of U-shaped arms 6, 6a, the other arm 6a being secured to the spindle 1 by an elbow piece 8 and screw plug 9. The other ends of the arms 6, 6a are secured in a T-piece 10 with the interposition of a web 10a to confine to the arm 6 liquid flowing through the stem 11 of the piece. A double conical head on the stem 11 forms a water seal and is rotatably supported by a coned sleeve 13 screwed into a similiar sleeve 14 on a supply pipe 15 to support the reel. The supply pipe 15 may project upwards instead of downwards and the reel rest thereon or a further pair of U-shaped arms extend dowwnards to a T-piece supported by a coil spring around its stem, the weight of the reel being thus divided between upper and lower mountings. Strain on the coupling joining the hose to the liquid pipe 19 on the hub 2 is avoided by passing the hose through a ring 21 on a spring controlled stud 22.
