Abstract
390,240. Vehicle brakes. MOHL, S., 33, Amaliegade, Copenhagen. Nov. 9, 1931, No. 31062. [Class 103 (i).] To prevent interference with the operation of the brakes of a vehicle by the movements of the chassis on the bearing springs, the usual spring 4 is connected to a shackle 6 pivoted to the chassis at 8 and an additional spring 11 is connected to a point 10 on the shackle and the brake pull rod which is connected to the brake-operating lever on the wheel is arranged to coincide as nearly as possible with a line 13 passing through the pivot 8 of the shackle 6 parallel to a line passing through the point 10 and the middle point of the longest leaf of the spring 11. Since when the springs flex the points 7, 10 describe arcs of circles the centres of which are situated substantially at the middle points of the longest leaves of the two springs, the point 8 will describe an arc of a circle having its centre at a point on the line 13 adjacent the axle, this point being that at which the end of the brake lever should be situated. The distance between this point and the point 8 will therefore not vary. In order that the pull rod may pass substantially through the point 8 the forward end of the rod may be connected to a vertically swinging intermediate lever, the mean position of the end of which lies close to the point 8. The device may be applied to vehicles having a pair of rear axles in which the shackles 5 of the springs 4 of the two wheels, instead of being connected to the chassis as shown, are connected respectively to the ends of a balancer which is pivoted at its middle point on the chassis or in which one wheel is mounted directly on the end of the balancer as described in Specification 212,299, [Class 108 (ii), Road vehicles, Undercarriage details &c. for].
