Abstract
389,314. Hardening glass. COMPAGNIES R•UNIES DES GLACES ET VERRES SP•CIAUX DU NORD DE LA FRANCE, Boussois-sur-Sambre, Nord, France. May 21, 1932, No. 14517. Convention date, March 9. Addition to 385,843. [Class 56.] Relates to apparatus for hardening a sheet of glass by means of air jets directed on to the surfaces of the sheet while it is hot, the jets being kept in motion in order to obtain uniformity of cooling. According to the invention, the jets proceed from apertures 10, Fig. 1, formed in a tube 9 which is secured to a tubular driving shaft 2 arranged perpendicularly to the glass plate 11, so that the jets move in concentric circular paths. Two of such devices may be used in order to treat both surfaces of the sheet simultaneously, and the air is supplied to the jets from a pipe 8 either through the bearing 6 of the shaft 2 or through a joint at the end of the shaft. When hardening sheets of large size, a number of tubes 9 rotated in unison with one another may be used, as shown in Fig. 6. The tubes may consist of any desired number of branches radiating from the shaft 2.
