556,558. Toughening glass. TILLYER, A., and B.I.G. SECURITIES, Ltd. April 7, 1942, No. 4542. [Class 56] An apparatus for toughening sheets of glass comprises two series of air nozzles 16 facing one another and spaced apart to form a narrow channel for the hot glass sheets 17, rotating cranks 23 for moving the nozzles in circular paths in vertical planes, and hoods or funnels 30 connected to suction fans for removing the whole of the air which is directed by the nozzles against the glass sheet 17. Specifications 385,843, 433,748 and 541,049 are referred to.
