Abstract

388,517. Binding edges of sheet material. SCHOENING, H., 23, Fraziskanerweg, Frohnau, Berlin. Dec. 16, 1931, No. 34885. [Class 16.] The edges of paper and like sheets are reinforced by means of a strip of crimped paper or of thin paper attached to fabric. The strip is secured to the sheet by means of an adhesive, such as indiarubber latex or guttapercha treated with benzine, benzol, &c. The strip may be coated with paraffin or glycerine before or after application, to render it more durable. It may be doubled over the edge of the sheet, or separate strips may be attached to one or both sides. The margin of the sheet may be perforated to increase the effect of the adhesive. The sheet to be bound is fed along a flanged table a, Fig. 6, and the strip d, drawn from a reel, passes over a guide-roller c and between folders f, Fig. 11, which double it over the edge of the sheet. Adjustable projecting members i guide the strip during folding. The edge of the sheet is pushed into the fold of the strip, and both are drawn along by rollers operated by a crank-handle. The strip is severed by knives q, operated by a knob v, the top knife being flexible and pressing against the other. The reel carrying the strip comprises fixed and movable discs clamped together by a nut.
