Abstract

388,476. Pneumatic tyres. MILLER, D. B., 7, Ratcliffe Avenue, Ryde, Isle of Wight. Oct. 19, 1931, No. 29019. [Class 144 (ii).] To protect the air-tube from damage by tyre levers &c. guard members provided with anchoring-means adapted to engage the wheel rim are fitted between the tube and the outer cover. Each guard-member comprises a flap 8 of fabric or other pliable material, engaging the bead 6 and a portion of the side-wall of the cover 7, and a flanged metal strip 5 engaging the wheel rim. In a modification, the guardmember may be pressed or otherwise formed from sheet material to the contour of the tyre cover and rim-flange, being preferably enclosed within a pocket provided in or on the inner wall of the cover. In a further modification, the guard may be formed integrally with the cover. In another form, particularly applicable to rims of flat-sided type, the guard member may be detachably or permanently secured to the base of the rim, or may extend through a slot therein and not pass between the cover and the edge of the rim.
