Abstract
388,304. Vehicles with removable bodies ; refrigerator vans. GIBSON & SON, Ltd., J. and GIBSON, G. T., Jameson Place, Leith, Edinburgh. July 29, 1932, No. 21381. [Classes 103 (iv) and 108 (i).] A lorry or like platform road or rail vehicle is provided with a removable body, the sides and roof of which are made in sections removably hinged to a skeleton framework removably mounted in the vehicle platform. As shown, a refrigerator van comprises transverse frames 13, 14 connected by a ridge bar or bars 15 and removably mounted on the lorry platform 11. Pairs of roof sections 16 are removably hinged to the ridge bar 15 and side sections 18 are likewise removably hinged to the floor 11. The side sections are adapted to be locked to the transverse frames by fastening means 22, 23 and the roof sections to the side sections by hooked extensions 26. The end section 13 is provided with two doors 29, 30. The roof and side sections and if desired the floor comprise metal sheets 35 and wood linings 36 with an intervening layer 37 of insulating material such as granular cork. The front frame 39 is, as shown, an ice box having two lateral ice compartments 40, air admitted through cowls 43, 44 passes over the ice and through apertures 45 into the van. Protecting bars 46 are provided.
