Abstract
261,727. Hudson Motor Car Co., (Assignees of Toncray, M. H.). Nov. 19, 1925, [convention date]. Bodies.-A method of forming all-metal bodies, particularly of closed vehicles, comprises assembling relatively small panels preformed to their final shape and sill members to form sections which are subsequently connected together and to other units to form the body. The sections comprise the front section, the rear side or quarter sections, the rear section, and the top or roof section. The rear side sections, as shown, comprise preformed panels 60, 61, Fig. 19, connected together at the belt line by mouldings and to side sills 40, pillars 70, 75 being secured to the panels and the pillar 70 being secured to the side sill by means of a bracket 73, and a pillar flange 85, Fig. 26, embracing the sill 40. The sill 40 is of channel section having parts 38, 39, Fig. 26, and flanges 41, 42, the flanges 41 coacting with the flanges 63 of the panels. The rear section comprises panels 58, 59, Fig. 19, connected together and to a rear cross-sill 47 by flanges 63. The rear section is connected to the rear quarter sections by connecting the contiguous edges of the panels and connecting the rear cross-sill 47 to the side sills 40. The side sills are further connected by cross-braces 49 and a heel board 50, secured also to seat risers 44. The front section comprises a cowl panel 80, Fig. 14, a panel 83, pillars 81 secured to the panels 80, 83, and a header 82. The front section is secured to the sills by flanges 63, and by angular brackets, Fig. 20, connecting the pillars 81 to the sills 40. The pillars 70, 81 at each side are connected by longitudinal headers 86, Fig. 19. The roof section comprises wooden longitudinal members 88, end members 89, and cross-members 90, the members being secured to the flanges of the panels by screws and to the headers 86, 82 by bolts. The roof frame is preferably covered by a suitable fabric. The locating means for the various sections comprise bolt or rivet holes which are positioned by dies when forming the various parts. Specifications 261,728 and 274,684 are referred to.
