Abstract

388,288. Bedsteads convertible into seats. GRASSIAN, L., 54, Faubourg St-Antoine, Paris. July 13, 1932, No. 19830. Convention date, Sept. 4, 1931. [Class 52 (ii).] An armchair convertible into a bed comprises a fixed frame to which are hinged a seat and a back and within which is a rising mattress member, the seat, back and mattress member being so connected that when the seat is swung into the horizontal or bed position, the back hinges rearwardly into this position and the mattress member simultaneously rises in the frame. Fig. 1 shows the device folded and arranged for use as a chair and in Fig. 2 it is shown unfolded for use as a bed. The back 3 is hinged to the fixed frame 1 at 13 and the seat 2 is hinged at 12. Extensions 5 are attached to the back 3 and are pivoted to links 6 having pin-and-slot connections 18 with the seat 2. A frame 4 is pivoted in the back 3 and can swing in the direction of the arrow f to form a bolster rest. When the frame 4 is being so moved, it releases a latch 16, 17 holding the parts 2, 3 together. The movement of the seat part 2 in the direction of the arrow f2 causes the back part 3 to move simultaneously, this motion being limited by links 9 pivoted to the fixed frame 1 and having slots engaging pins on the links 6. The rising mattress frame 15 is caused to move vertically in the base 1 when the parts 2, 3 are opened, the frame 15 being connected to the part 2 by links 7 and to the part 3 by straps 11. It is guided in its movement by levers 8, 10.
