387,995. Diaphragms. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London.-(Assignees of Bedford, A. V. ; 329, Germania Avenue, Schenectady, New York, U.S.A.) May 9, 1931, No. 13787. Convention date, May 9, 1930. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 40 (iv).] An acoustic diaphragm 10 comprises a plurality of conical sections 17, 18, 19 connected together by members 20, 21 having a high viscosity or damping coefficient, such as the flexible succinate resin known as glyptal. The diaphragm, which is driven near its apex by a coil 16, is connected at its outer edge to a leather &c. ring 11 clamped between rings 12 and near its apex to the central magnet pole 13 by means of a spider 14 and screw 15. With such an arrangement, the diaphragm sections so operate that at low frequencies the force impressed on the section of smallest mass is transmitted to the whole diaphragm, whilst, as the frequency of the impressed force rises, fewer sections respond, until, at high frequencies, only the section of smallest diameter responds.
