Abstract
- 387,860. Magnetos. SOC. DES MOTEURS SALMSON, 68, Rue Pierre Charron, Paris. March 29, 1932, No. 9002. Convention date, March 31,1931. [Class 35.] In an ignition magneto having a number of changes of direction of the flux in the magnetic circuit greater than the number of sparks required, the number of equidistant bosses of the interrupter is such that only one break occurs for an uneven number of flux changes greater than one. The object of the invention is to avoid the transference of metal from one contact of the interrupter to the other as would be the case if the primary current were in the same direction for each break. In the case of a magneto having a rotating magnet 1, as shown, the pole arms 5, 6 at opposite ends are staggered so that six flux changes take place per revolution, but the interrupter has two diametrically opposite cam bosses so that two only of the flux changes are utilized for spark production, the primary current being reversed at each break. In magnetos of the type shown, the number of arms 5 or 6 on each of the magnet poles 3, 4 in an uneven multiple of one-half the number of sparks required per revolution. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also rotating magnets in which the pole arms at each end are unsymmetrically distributed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
