Magneto-electric machines.-The armature of an ignition magneto producing two sparks per revolution at unequal angular intervals has one pair of diagonally opposite faces d, Figs. 1 and 4, constructed of non-magnetic material, and the longitudinal edges of each magnet-pole a are stepped; Figs. 2 and 3 are plan views of the upper and the lower edges respectively of the polepieces. The gaps between the pole-pieces are approximately equal to the width of the armature faces, but owing to the stepped formation one end of a gap is in a different angular position to the other and corresponding portions of the gaps are at diagonally opposite ends of the pole-pieces. The interval between two sparking positions may be varied to suit engines with different angular distances between the cylinders, by altering the stepped formation of the pole-pieces.
