[Classes 39 (iii) and 126.] An electric fire comprising heating elements arranged in front of a reflector 2 fitted to a screen 1 is provided near the top with one or more rearwardly projecting brackets 6 having notches or holes to engage a suspension member fitted in a fire grate, and a rearwardly projecting prop 8 arranged near the bottom and adapted to bear against the grate. A switch is fitted at the front of the bottom of the screen. The suspension member comprises spindles 11, 10 screwed right- and left-handed and engaging screwed members mounted in a tube 12. Rubber pads 16, 15 are fitted on the ends of the spindles. Alternatively the suspension member comprises rods slidably mounted in a sleeve. One rod is resiliently mounted by means of a helical spring and the other is secured in the required position by a thumb-screw. The prop comprises stepped members 8 interconnected by a flat bar. The bar may be removed and the stepped members turned down to form feet. Alternatively the prop may be a bar adjustable in length.
