LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OIE' MISSOURI COPYHOLDEB LIGHT Application led October 1, 1930. Serial No. 485,650.
My invention relates to lights for copyholders and the like and has for its princial object a co-pyholder light construction that will throw the light onto the copy, that can be easily installed on an existing copyholder and that is simple and economical in construction. The invention consists in the copyholder light and in the parts and combinations of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig.v 1 is a front elevation ot a copyholder my invention, a portion of the reiiector member being broken away and a portion only of the copyholder being shown.
Fig. Q is al rear elevation,
Fig. 3 is a side elevation,
Fig. 4 is a sectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1*; and
Fig. 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2'.
Copyholders commonly used by typists and others comprise a stationary base member 1, a copyholding member 2 slidable vertically on said base member and an indicating strip 3 adapted to extend along the line being copied, the raising ot the copyholder from time to time bringing a new line into position above said indicating strip. Said indicating strip is held by arms 4 secured to the edges of said base 1.
Such copyholders are diiiicult to properly illuminate by means of ordinary lights; and the present invention provides a light 5 directly above and in iront of the copy so as to throw a clear light thereon. Secured to the back of the base 1 of the copyholder as by screws 6 and nuts 7 is a mounting strip 8 that has upwardly and forwardly inclined side arms 9 between whose upper ends is supported a reflector shell 10 oi suitable type. Said reflector shell 10 is adjustably held in position by knurlheaded screws 11 extending through the arms 9 into the ends of the shell 10. Y
The light bulb 5 is mounted in said shell 10 and the wire 12 therefor extends along one of the arms 9, said arms being provided with a clip 13 near its lower end to engage the wire 12 and prevent it from dangling loosely. rhe mounting strip 8 is provided with elongated slots 111y through which the screws 6 extend, so that the strip may be used on copyholders of different widths. Certain copyholders now commonly used are provided with raised panel portions 15 (as illustrated in the drawing) and said strip 8 has an olset middle portion 8a adapted to accommodate said raised panels 15.
The reflector 10 may be turned so as to throw the light onto the copy, as desired. In order to prevent the light from passing rearwardly over the top of the copyholder, a depending shield 16 may be disposed at the rear side of the reflector, said shield being provided with clip fingers 17 by which it is removably secured to the main reflector shell 10.
A rearwardly and downwardly inclined brace arm 18 may be secured to the middle of said mounting strip. This arm affords an additional steadying means for the copyholder.
The above described construction makes it possible to clearly illuminate the copy in a copyholder and it also affords means for steadying the copyholder. Obviously numerous changes may be made without departing from the invention and I do not wish to be limited to the precise construction shown.
What I claim is:
1. A. copyholder light construction comprising a stationary base, a mounting strip extending across the back of said base and provided with elongated slots, screws extending from said base through said slots to hold said strip in position, upwardly and for wardly inclined arms extending from the ends of said. strip, a light containing reflector shell movably mounted between the upper ends of said arms, and a. downwardly extending brace Jfor said base secured to said mounting strip.
2. A. copyholder light comprising a strip adapted to be secured to the stationary member of a copyholder and having upwardly and forwardly inclined arms extending from its ends, a light containing'reiiector shell having its ends pivotally secured to said arms, i 1';
a depending shied at the rear of said reflector shell, and clip fingers on said shield extending around said shell and bent over the front edge thereof.
5 Signed at St. Louis, Missouri, this 27th day of September, 1930.
'OSWALD W. KLINGSICK.
