2 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in score pad holders, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a simple, practical, and inexpensive score pad holder for attachment to a bridge table, whereby the players can read the' the following description taken in connectionwith the appended dra ing, wherein for purposes of illustration lhave shown a preferred embodiment of my invention.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a general sectional elevational view showing the present device mounted on a fragmentary portion of a bridge table.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the pad rest.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 generally designates the embodiment chosen to illustrate the invention, the same comprising a U-shaped clamp 6 having an arm I to engage the top 8 of the table 9 and a shorter arm It] provided with a hand screw H to clamp against the bottom of the side rail l2 of the table. The terminal of the upper arm 1 is provided with a short upright I3 terminating in a ball and socket joint l4 whose upper element is secured to the middle of the bight portion l5 of U-shaped bracket 16 which has pivot holes I! in the upper ends of its arms [8 to rotatably aocept the trunnions l9 projecting from the opposite edges of the score pad rest 20 which consists of a slightly vertically elongated generally rectangular plate of metal or of other suitable non-metallic material and having a V-shaped spring retainer 2| attached to project forwardly from the upper edge of the plate. The spring retainer 2| is V-shaped in cross section and has one arm arranged horizontally and the other in a downwardly and rearwardly declining position to effectively engage the upper part of the score pad 22 as illustrated in Figure 2 while the lower end of the pad rests on the forwardly projecting flange 23 which is formed on the lower edge of the plate. The forward part of the flange 23 is bent or otherwise formed into a semi-cylinder 24 to provide an efficient pencil receiver or rest.
It is believed obvious that with the plate 20 properly weighted at the lower end thereof by the flange arrangements 23 and 24, or by proper placement of the trunnions I9, the normal position of the rest 20 with the score 'pad 22 therein will be upright as shown in Figures 1 and 2. In this position the rest may be rotated about various vertical axes passing through the center of the ball and socket joint I4 and swung through various vertical planes toward and away from the horizontal, in order to adjust the holder for properly exhibiting the score on the pad 22 to the players at the bridge table, and to provide for a comfortable writing position for the scorer to write the score on the pad. Due to the fact that the clamp 6 may be attached to the edge of the table at any convenient place, the present device may be located in an out-of-the-way yet convenient position with respect to the players and especially the score keeper.
Although I have shown and described herein a preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be definitely understood that I do not desire to limit the application of the invention to the structural details disclosed, except as may be required by the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having described the invention, what claimed as new is:
1. The combination of a score pad holder and support therefor comprising a substantially rectangular plate having its lower edge formed into a combined pad support and pencil trough, said plate having a clamp formed on its upper edge, a U-frame having pivot means at its extremities to pivotally support said plate, and pivot support means connecting said U-frame to a table, whereby said plate may be rotated on a horizontal and a vertical axis.
2. The combination of a score pad holder and support therefor comprising a substantially rectangular plate having its lower edge formed into a combined pad support and pencil trough, said plate having a clamp formed on its upper edge, lugs formed integrally with said plate substantially midway of the length of the side edges of said plate, a U-frame having pivot'holes formed in its extremities to receive said lugs, whereby said plate may be pivoted through said U-frame, and pivot means connected to said U-frame to support said U-frame in spaced relation to a table, whereby said U-frame may be rotated on a vertical axis.
MAYBELLE M. MICHAEL.
