Abstract
A manure which will give off carbon dioxide is made by adding to coke of brown coal or lignite one or more catalytic agents which will accelerate the oxidation of the carbon-containing material into carbon dioxide, the catalytic agents comprising the oxides of iron, chromium, manganese, copper, nickel, cobalt, thorium, zirconium, silicon, and aluminium in the dry state, or compounds of these elements, e.g. in the form of the sulphate or nitrate, in the dry state or in aqueous solution. The coke may be slaked with the solution. An alkali, e.g. sodium carbonate, may be added to accelerate the oxidation. Other fertilizing material containing phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium may be added. Specification 318,404, [Class 111, Sewage &c.], is referred to.
