Abstract

The caking tendency of fertilizing materials, such as ammonium sulphate or ammonium nitrate or mixtures containing them, is reduced by adding thereto from 1 to 5 per cent of a powdered starchy material, such as rice meal or flour. The Provisional Specification describes also the addition of the following materials to ammonium sulphate in place of starch:--wood charcoal, activated charcoal, silica gel, calcined asbestos, kieselguhr, iron pyrites, ammonium calcium or sodium phosphate, kaolin, carbon black, and the bye-product, known as "Neutralizer sludge," obtained in the production of fertilizers from phosphate rock. It also describes the addition of the following materials to ammonium nitrate:--carbon black, kieselguhr, bipotassium phosphate, "Neutralizer sludge," phosphate rock, ferric phosphate, magnesium carbonate, dolomite, chalk, "Nile silt," and potassium monoammonium carbonate.ALSO:The caking tendency of fertilizing materials, such as ammonium sulphate or ammonium nitrate or mixtures containing them, is reduced by adding thereto from one to five per cent of a powdered starchy material such as rice meal or flour.
