Abstract
Finely ground slag from the refining of phosphatic melts is mixed with appropriate proportions of water and amorphous Fe and/or Mg hydroxide and the mixture is granulated. The mixture to be granulated can additionally contain Mg and/or Fe chloride and/or sulphate and/or nitrate and/or an alkali salt (pref. KCl). The Fe and/or Mg hydroxide is pref. material obtained as a byproduct of the cleaning of sheet steel. The inclusion of Fe and/or Mg hydroxide increases the hardness of the granules and improves the granulation procedure.
