Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. [Class 94 (i).] In a machine for packing cigarettes and the like, means are provided for rejecting incompletely filled packets. In the form shown, a group 2 of twenty cigarettes, having rows of seven, six and seven respectively, is fed along a track 1 towards the packing mechanism. Levers or feelers 3 are mounted on a slide 36 reciprocated so that, at the time when a group of cigarettes is passing, the feelers are impelled by springs 5 to contact with the edges of the rows. If a cigarette is absent, the corresponding feeler moves inwards, the rear end making contact with a point 6 in a circuit 8. An electro-magnet 9 is energized and attracts an armature 10. The armature is in the form of a double-armed lever pivoted at 11, and the part 12 displaces a pin 18 in a direction parallel to the axis of a disc 13 in which it is mounted. Further rotation of the disc causes the pin to turn a lever 20 and release a catch 22. A spring 29 moves the links 23, 24, 24a, 30, 31 to cause a flap 33 to turn into the position shown in broken lines and reject the faulty packet 35, which takes the same time to travel to this position as does the displaced pin to arrive at the releasing position.
