Abstract
To ensure flatness in cellulose acetate films and foils, there is employed a cellulose acetate hydrolysed to such an extent that 90 per cent or more is precipitated when an acetone solution of the acetate is diluted so as to contain 60 per cent acetone and 40 per cent water. Hydrolysis may be controlled according to the method of Specification 350,417, and it may be carried out either with the addition of mineral acid to the primary acetylation solution, or, as is preferred, with the addition of water only p since under these conditions the reaction is slower and therefore more easily controlled. A plasticizer is used in working up the cellulose acetate into sheet material.
