Abstract

553,512. Dioxyacetone ether esters. GEIGY AKT.-GES., J. R. Dec. 16, 1941, No. 16211. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1940. [Class 2 (iii)] Dioxyacetone ether esters are prepared by oxidizing an ether ester of glycerine which contains an ether residue in one α- position and in the other a residue of an oxygen containing acid. In examples (1) A glacial acetic acid solution of 1 - phenoxy - 3 - acetoxy - propanol - 2 is treated with chromium trioxide to give 1 phenoxy - 3 - acetoxy - propanone - 2. (2) Secondary -mono -guaiacoline phosphoric acid ester is stirred with sodium bichromate and sulphuric acid added slowly to give secondary guaiacoxy-acetol phosphoric acid ester. (3) 1 - # - naphthoxy - 3 - acetoxy - propanol - 2 is treated as in example (2) to give 1-#-naphthoxy - 3 - acetoxy propanone - 2. The starting materials are prepared as follows :- 1 - phenoxy - 3 - acetoxy - propanol - 2 by treating glycerine - ex - chlorhydrin phenyl ether with potassium acetate, or by treating epiphenyline with acetyl chloride. Sec - mono - guaiacoline phosphoric acid ester by splitting epiguaiacoline with phosphoric acid. Naphthoxy - acetoxy - propanol by the action of acetyl chloride on #-naphthol glycerine ether, or by the action of glacial acetic acid on # - epinaphthaline. Specification 553,578 is referred to.
