Abstract

385,483. Covering cores by winding. PERKINS & SON, Inc., B. F., 10, Crescent Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts, U.S.A. March 12, 1932, No. 7448. Convention date, March 12, 1931. [Class 109.] A machine for applying helical windings of yarn to a core comprises a pair of hollow spindles 30 through which the core C is drawn and independent means for rotating each spindle 30. Each driving means comprises an electric motor 36, 38 contained in a housing 26. Cork or other washers 39, 40 are provided between the spindle bearings and the housing to absorb vibration. Each spindle can be braked independently by a spring-pressed collar 58 carrying a friction washer 62, the collar 58 normally being held in inoperative position by a lever 50. The covering material is led through travellers 122, 126 to the core. The guide 120 for the traveller 122 is fixed, and the guide 123 for the traveller 126 rotates with the spindle 30.
