Abstract

Machines for making; cores, covering by winding. - Means are provided for balancing the effects of the centrifugal forces upon the tension device for controlling the delivery of the material from the supply cop of a machine for covering wire and other cores, or of a twisting or spinning machine. As applied to a machine for covering cores, the device comprises a pivoted member 35 carried upon an arm of the rotating flyer 24 and adapted to be held in engagement with the cop c by a spring 40 the tension of which is adjustable by rotating the post 33 upon which it is supported, and the balancing is effected by providing the member 35 with a weighted hub portion 36 so disposed that the centrifugal forces on the hub 36 and arm portion 38 are balanced. The wire or other core W is led through the hollow spindle of the machine and through a groove in the tapered end of the spindle, and the material S is guided by members 25, 26, 21. A polishing- device comprising an arm 19 held against the wrapped core by a spring 20 is provided. Speci. fication 14575/13 is referred to.
