[Class 138 (i).] An arm 6 adapted to be oscillated by a motor 7 is connected through a rod 5 and a link 1 to the arm 3 of a windscreen cleaner 4. The link 1 is pivotally connected to a bracket carrying a fixed sprocket wheel 10 which is connected by a chain 9 to a sprocket 8, to which the arm 3 is attached. As the arm 6 oscillates, the cleaner traverses a path indicated by the area 14 shown in dotted lines. As the wiper approaches either end of its traverse, a roller 11 slidably mounted on the arm 3 engages a cam 13 whereby the cleaner is withdrawn temporarily from contact with the screen. Continued upward movement of the cleaner causes the roller to fall off the cam, bringing the cleaner again into contact with the screen. Contact is maintained during the reverse downward stroke of the cleaner, whereby any liquid which has accumulated by the action of the wiper blade during the upward stroke is removed. Other means are described for causing the cleaner to jump over the accumulated liquid near each end of its traverse. In a modification, the rod 5 instead of being connected to the link 1 is connected to a point on the arm 3. In a further modification shown in Fig. 3, the arm 3 is pivotally connected to the rod 5 and to links 1, 15, both of which are pivotally mounted on a fixed bracket. In a further modification shown in Fig. 4, the oscillating arm 6 is connected by links 5, 5<1> to the arm 3 and link 1, respectively.
