Abstract

385,198. Heating air ; thermallyactuated valves. ROOT, C. H., 3005, West Euclid, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. May 17, 1932, No. 14023. [Class 7 (iii).] The air supplied to a carburetter is maintained at a constant temperature by a thermostatic control. In the construction of apparatus shown in the Figure, air which has been heated by a muff around the exhaust pipe passes through a passage 7 in a plate 6 and around a thermostat 10 on its way to the carburetter intake. As the temperature of the air rises, the thermostat actuates a sleeve 4 carried by it and opens apertures 5 through which cold air enters the pipe 2 ; at the same time a disc 12 seats on the plate 6 to cut off the supply of heated air. The thermostat is carried on a rod 11 and consists of hollow flexible members.
